LOCATION :: Pembrokeshire surfing

Pembrokeshire has been described as "Cornwall without the crowds" and to some extent this is particularly true of the beaches and surfing conditions. The Pembrokeshire Coast National Park was recently voted second best coastline in the WORLD by National Geographic writers. (After New Zealand). Beaches like "Barafundle" in the South of the county are regularly named in Polls of the top 10 beaches in the world!

 

Pembrokeshire is home to some world class waves although the location of some of these are a closely guarded secret!

 

Some surf beaches like Freshwater West are more suited to experts whilst others are fantastic for learning and improving surfing skills. Newgale and Broad Haven (North) both near Haverfordwest have gently shelving flatter expanses of sand which produce a spilling wave and a long ride in white water to maximise practise time, have fewer strong currents than other beaches and have RNLI lifeguard cover during peak Summer months.

Masterclass surfing is a mobile surf school which means we can go to whichever is the safest and best, most suitable location for the day's activities. Mainly based at BROAD HAVEN (NORTH PEMBS) or alternatively PEBBLES café at NEWGALE Summertime surf conditions mean that Newgale is favourite whereas early and late season sessions are often run at Broad Haven.

 

"The Patch" (Pebbles car park at Newgale) is the traditional home of the Pembrokeshire Surf Club since the 70's and now the North Pembrokeshire Surf Club with regular tuition sessions for locals provided by Masterclass Surfing since year 2000. It is reckoned to be the quietest and nicest of the beach front car parks having more greenery and being less busy as it is not on the main St. Davids road.

 

To find Pebbles Café at Newgale get on the M4 then keep going West towards St. Davids until you reach the sea then turn left and we're a few hundred yards along! .. SA62 6BD Parking is in the main National Parks car park. Newgale has a Campsite, camper parking, a Pub, Cafes and surf hire and shops right on the beachfront.

 

For Broad Haven follow the signs from Haverfordwest turn left along the seafront and we're a few hundred yards along! Parking is in the small car park behind the Beach café next to the slipway ... SA62 3JR

Broad Haven has a seafront Surfshop with surf hire, Pub's, a Restaurant, Cafés, self catering apartments, B&B's and a grocery shop open long hours.
